Abstract
This study explores the adjustment challenges faced by first-year female students residing in university hostels, focusing on academic, health, social, and emotional dimensions. A sample of 250 students from Banasthali Vidyapith, a women’s university in Rajasthan, was assessed using a self-constructed adjustment inventory. The results reveal that 27.6% of students demonstrated excellent adjustment, while 24.8% faced significant difficulties across these dimensions. Academic pressure, social isolation, and emotional stress were identified as major challenges, particularly for students in demanding programs like “B.Tech (CS)” and “B.Sc. Nursing”. Conversely, students in “B.Sc. Math” and “B.Sc. Bio Science” showed better adjustment. The study recommends enhanced academic support, health and wellness resources, social integration initiatives, and mental health services to improve overall student adjustment and well-being.
