Abstract

Assessment reforms in education are crucial for fostering meaningful learning and bridging the gap between knowledge acquisition and its practical application. This paper explores the shift from traditional content-based assessments to competency-based evaluation, emphasizing the importance of skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and adaptability in today’s rapidly evolving world. Competency-based evaluation focuses on measuring a learner’s ability to apply knowledge in real-world scenarios, thereby aligning assessments with contemporary educational goals.

The study examines the principles underpinning competency-based assessment, including personalized learning paths, mastery of specific competencies, and formative evaluation methods. It also highlights the challenges associated with implementing such reforms, such as teacher preparedness, curriculum restructuring, and logistical complexities. Case studies of successful implementation in various educational contexts, both national and international, demonstrate the potential of competency-based evaluation to improve educational outcomes.

The paper concludes by proposing strategies for effective adoption of competency-based evaluation, emphasizing professional development for educators, integration of digital tools, and collaboration among stakeholders. These reforms represent a paradigm shift in education, fostering a learner-centric approach that prepares individuals for future challenges.
