Abstract

Background: Psychiatric disorders significantly impact entire families. The burden on caregivers has been recognized for some time. While various psycho-educational interventions have demonstrated positive effects on burden, little research has examined the relationship between family dysfunction and its role in caregiver burden, depression, anxiety, and stress. Aim: To assess and compare stress, anxiety and depression among male and female caregivers of individuals with psychiatric disorders. Methods: A cross-sectional hospital-based study conducted at RINPAS, Kanke, Ranchi (Jharkhand) with 100 participants selected through purposive sampling. Participants were interviewed at the outpatient department using socio-demographic questionnaires and the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS). Result: The study revealed significant stress, anxiety and depression among caregivers of psychiatric patients. Conclusion: The findings suggest that psychosocial interventions should address not only caregiver burden but also improve overall family environment to enhance adaptive functioning.
