Abstract

This review research paper explores the intricate relationship between language and power through the lens of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), focusing specifically on political speeches. Drawing on foundational theories by scholars such as Fairclough, van Dijk, and Wodak, the paper examines how political language functions as a tool to construct ideology, shape public opinion, legitimize authority, and manipulate discourse. Through a synthesis of key studies, the review highlights recurring discursive strategies such as metaphor, repetition, presupposition, and pronoun usage, which politicians employ to reinforce dominance, create national identity, and marginalize dissent. The paper also investigates how CDA unveils implicit power structures embedded in language and contributes to a deeper understanding of sociopolitical dynamics. By integrating case studies from diverse political contexts and historical moments, the review underscores the global relevance and critical utility of CDA in contemporary political discourse analysis.
