Abstract

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 marks a paradigm shift in India’s educational landscape by positioning vocational education as a core pillar of equitable socioeconomic growth and workforce development. Historically segregated from academic streams and constrained by social stigma, vocational training is being reimagined through a model of seamless integration into mainstream general education. This paper examines how the NEP 2020 framework addresses systemic accessibility, providing flexible, multiple entry-and-exit pathways that allow students of all backgrounds to acquire industry-relevant competencies alongside standard academic credentials. Realizing this vision requires a robust, collaborative ecosystem linking government bodies, educational institutions, industrial sectors, and civil society. By breaking down institutional silos, this integrated approach aims to eliminate terminal educational tracks, build a highly skilled workforce capable of driving national economic development, and cultivate a more inclusive, egalitarian learning environment. Ultimately, this study highlights how the policy’s emphasis on skill democratization and market alignment redefines career readiness, ensuring that future graduates are equipped to secure sustainable livelihoods and thrive in a rapidly evolving global job market.
