Abstract

The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) is so far as largest employment generation programme in India. The awareness regarding the MGNREGS is very important aspect of this scheme. This paper attempts to examine the awareness level of the MGNREGS beneficiaries in Anand and Panchmahals districts of Gujarat. The study found that majority of the MGNREGS beneficiaries were aware regarding total number of working days provided under MGNREGS and half of the beneficiaries were aware regarding per day wage rates under MGNREGS and more than 90 per cent of the beneficiaries were aware regarding 33 per cent of the women participation under MGRNEGS.
