Abstract
Frustration is one of the causes of stress. It arises when one’s motivation to achieve a desired goal is blocked. The reactions to frustration are also known as Defense Mechanisms. These defense mechanisms are so called as they try to defend individuals from the psychological effects of a blocked goal. There are different ways how people respond to frustration specially peculiar for alcohol dependents. These responses are called coping behaviors and are in the three major categories namely; the Withdrawal Reactions; the Aggressive Reactions; and the Compromise Reactions. There are different ways how people respond to frustration. These responses are called coping behaviors and are in the three major categories namely; the Withdrawal Reactions; the Aggressive Reactions; and the Compromise Reactions. The present study is conducted on 15 alcohol dependents whom the pre testing reaction to frustration was measured through Reaction to Frustration Scale by Srivastava and Dixit, Thereafter cognitive behaviour therapy were given to all these clients for 16 sessions. The post test scores were measured and the pre-test and post test scores were compared through paired ‘t’ test. The results indicate that there is significant effect of cognitive behaviour therapy on controlling the reaction to frustration among alcohol dependents.
