Abstract

The topic of diaspora has consistently been a prominent concern within Indo-English Literature. While many Indian fiction writers reside abroad, their connection to their homeland remains strong, making diaspora a central theme in their works. Jhumpa Lahiri, a notable figure in Indo- English Literature, especially in diasporic literature, received the esteemed Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 2000. This article examines the challenges faced by diasporic communities, explores diaspora in Indo-English fiction, distinguishes Lahiri from other Indian English writers, and analyzes the themes of diaspora and cross-cultural identity in her novels “The Namesake” and “The Lowland.” Lahiri’s debut novel, “The Namesake,” showcases her exceptional storytelling skills, earning acclaim from international media. Similarly, her second novel, “The Lowland,” delves into complex themes such as ideology and familial dynamics, despite its initial portrayal as a tale of two brothers.
