Abstract
In the rapidly evolving digital and globalised world, students are increasingly confronted with complex real-life challenges: global warming, famines, poverty, suicide, population growth, and social, emotional, physical, and psychological problems. This paper explores the role of life skill education in preparing students to effectively navigate these challenges. The study begins with an overview of the concept of life skills and highlights their growing relevance in contemporary education. It further examines the importance of life skill education in fostering critical thinking, emotional intelligence, decision-making, and adaptability among learners. Drawing upon the framework proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO), the paper identifies key aspects of life skills that are decision-making, problem-solving, creative thinking, critical thinking, effective communication, interpersonal relationship skills, self-awareness, empathy, coping with emotions, and coping with stress. Additionally, the paper discusses various pedagogical strategies for promoting life skills education, such as experiential learning, collaborative learning, activity-based teaching, and the integration of technology. These approaches emphasise learner-centred practices that enhance practical understanding and real-world application. The study concludes that embedding life skill education within the curriculum is essential for holistic student development and for equipping learners with the competencies required to face real-world challenges effectively. The findings suggest that educators and policymakers must prioritise innovative teaching methods and structured life skill programmes to ensure meaningful educational outcomes.
