Abstract

India is an agricultural country. Approx 65 to 70% of working people in India are engaged with agricultural as well as allied activities in field. But, due to uncertainty of nature lack of water resources, high temperature, dealing with agriculture field has become challengeable particularly in rural India. That creates poverty due to unemployment during dry days. So poverty is a basic fact of Indian life. It is said that India is a prosperous country, where poor people reside.’ After independence our policy makers knew this fact and worked out to eradicate poverty gradually. It is seen in our various five year plans. But, these effects do not seem effective due to so many reasons including high rate of increase in population. Still 1/3 people of population are under B.P.L. Poverty has affected man-power so badly that a person cannot think for development and makes him helpless.
