Abstract
This study examines the socio-economic condition of farmers in Narmada District, Gujarat, with particular attention to differences across talukas, educational status and farm size. Primary data were collected from 400 farmer households selected through a multistage sampling procedure. A composite Socio-Economic Condition Index was used to assess household conditions, while one-way ANOVA was applied to compare group means. Pearson’s correlation and simple linear regression were used to examine the relationship between annual household income and SECI. The results showed no significant difference in SECI across talukas or farm-size groups. Educational status was associated with significant differences in SECI. Annual household income also showed a positive and statistically significant relationship with SECI. The findings point to education and income opportunities as relevant areas for improving farmers’ socio-economic conditions.
