Abstract

Domestic violence is mainly associated with women whereas men are not thought to be the victim. Due to which the laws are primarily designed keeping in mind the female victims only. However, evidences show that men can also be the victims of domestic violence which are often ignored or overlooked by the legal system. This paper examines the domestic violence against men in India and the gender bias in domestic violence laws which mainly focus on the women while neglecting the needs of male victims. It explores the existing legal framework in India, societal attitudes towards male victims and need for gender neutral laws.
